As April begins, lawmakers are eager to introduce a new policy that will ensure quality driving for truckers and a more efficient supply chain, according to Supply & Chain Demand Executive. This month also marks the start of National Distracted Driving Month an ideal time to consider solutions to make our roads safer.
The proposed legislation, the DRIVE-Safe Act, would ensure all drivers have additional training that will compensate for the high demand and lack of drivers. The DRIVE-Safe Act opens the door for people ages 18-21 to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) through a rigorous program, according to Meat and Poultry. This could end the shortage of truck drivers by allowing a new pool of younger people to obtain Commercial Driver’s License. The proposed law would include proper performance benchmarks and over 600 hours of driving time. This program also makes sure that all trucks are equipped with the proper safety gear and technology.
